Open Letter to UN, AU, ECOWAS on Emerging Security and Humanitarian Crisis in the Sahel

The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network (WADEMOS), the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD‑Ghana), the African Governance Institute (AGI), the Afrikajom Center and partners, have expressed deep concern about recent occurence in the Sahel, calling for urgent and coordinated action by the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to address the deepening security and humanitarian crisis across the Sahel.

The CSOs fear that a failure to intervene may lead to the escalation of the ongoing crisis and a further spillover into coastal West Africa.

In a joint open letter to the UN, AU and ECOWAS, the CSOs warn that these alarming dynamics demand a renewed and coordinated regional and international response – one that mobilizes political will, humanitarian support, and collective security mechanisms to prevent a total collapse of governance, mitigate human suffering, and preserve the prospects for democratic recovery in the Sahel.
