The country’s military junta has announced the dissolution of all political parties in the country. A statement said the action became necessary because the government was in the “process of reform” and that a law would be drafted to “manage political life in Mali”.
The move comes after a national conference where parties reportedly granted military leader Assimi Goita, who took power after two coups in 2020 and 2021, a five-years presidential term.
The government revoked the broadcasting rights of French-language news channel TV5 Monde after the media institution reported on growing anger in response to the dissolution.
