Open Letter to the Prime Minister of Senegal, Mr Ousmane Sonko

On the occasion of your visit to Burkina Faso to participate in, among other diplomatic activities, the inauguration ceremony of the mausoleum of Thomas Sankara, a prominent figure of sovereignty in Africa, I wish to address you with respect, but also with profound concern regarding the situation facing our friends.

You are undoubtedly already aware: your lawyer, Master Guy Hervé Kam, an indefatigable defender of human rights, has been arbitrarily detained since 10th July 2024 by the Burkinabè military authorities. This unjust detention, denounced repeatedly by civil society organisations and human rights defenders, constitutes a flagrant violation of fundamental freedoms and the rule of law.

We send you this letter, which we hope you will read, because we believe you are one of the most legitimate political leaders in Africa to carry this fight that transcends borders, as it concerns the respect and defence of fundamental freedoms and the fight against authoritarianism, the devastating effects of which you understand better than anyone else.
