On February 25, 2024, Senegal will go to the polls to elect the country’s sixth (6th) President since its independence in 1960. The election would be the 12th in the country’s history.
Senegalese President Macky Sall will not be on the ballot after serving two terms in office, having first come into power in 2012 and securing re-election in 2019.
93 aspirants filed to contest the February 25 election, however, a final list released by Senegal’s Constitutional Council on Saturday, January 20, 2024, showed that only 20 candidates had met the requirements to contest the polls.
