WADEMOS Hosts Two-day High-level Conference on Democratic Decline and Political Transition in Francophone West Africa

The West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network is set to hold a two-day high-level conference in La Cote d’Ivoire focused on the political climate within the ECOWAS sub-region.

The conference, which is on the theme “Democratic Decline and Political Transition in Francophone West Africa”, is expected to take place from August 1-2, 2023.

The conference will bring together relevant stakeholders within the ECOWAS Sub-region to review existing mechanisms at addressing the political situation in West Africa.

The conference will also offer stakeholders the opportunity to interact, recommend solutions and proposals and also form alliances to counter the threats to democracy.

Expert panel sessions will also be used to lead discussions on the drivers of democratic decline in West
Africa, the term limits conundrum, and also undertake an assessment of the divergent transition processes in Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea.

The Network will also use the opportunity to validate an assessment done on the transition countries and seek inputs to improve the reports.

An outcome document consolidating the recommendations, remarks, suggestions, and roadmap will be issued at the end of the Conference.
